LGBTQ+ Counselling in York
I offer face-to-face and online LGBTQ+ counselling in York for lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, queer and other LGBTQ+ people looking for a
confidential space to talk about what matters to them. This may include
sexuality or gender identity, as well as personal, emotional or relationship
issues you would like to explore.
You may be looking for a therapist who is more than “LGBTQ+ friendly” and who understands these experiences from both professional and personal perspectives. I am a lesbian counsellor and, from my own experience of counselling, I understand how valuable it can be to speak with someone who doesn't need you to explain LGBTQ+ terminology or experiences. This can allow more space to focus on what matters most to you.
Being LGBTQ+ can bring both joys and challenges. You may be exploring your identity for the first time, questioning or revisiting how you understand yourself, or making sense of past or present experiences that feel important or unresolved.
I understand the value of having a space where you can talk freely, without judgement or an agenda. My approach is collaborative and exploratory, working at your pace and focusing on what feels most important to you.
We can talk about:
-
Your sexuality, gender identity or romantic orientation.
-
Deciding whether to come out, navigating life after coming out, or exploring how you identify.
-
Support with coming out at university, in early adulthood or later in life.
-
Navigating attraction, dating and relationships.
-
Self-acceptance, including internalised homophobia or transphobia.
-
Experiences of prejudice, discrimination, or feeling different.
I am listed on Pink Therapy, a UK directory of LGBTQ+ therapists.
