Is AI therapy a good idea?

You are reading this on a therapist's website, so you can probably guess my answer here. Having said that, I can see the attraction of an AI therapist. It is available 24/7, easily accessible and can be free or low cost. People also like that it doesn't judge them, which is a sad reflection of the poor experiences some clients have had with their counsellors. My teenage niece also said her age group likes AI because you can delete conversations and start again, something you can't do in messy real life. The main downside is the obvious; it isn't a human being. I think that therapy can have many positive outcomes. One of them is that it improves how you communicate with other people. These might include sharing feelings, articulating thoughts, asking for what you need and mending misunderstandings. The counselling room is a test bed for all these relationship skills. What, I think, is a crucial part of this, is that you talking with another real 360 degree, living, breathing human being. Having already tried these out in real life (albeit in perhaps a safer space) you can more confidently repeat these experiences.
