LGBTQ+ Counselling in York

I offer face to face and online counselling to Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual,

Transgender, Queer and more (LGBTQ+) people who want to a confidential

space to explore any aspect of their sexuality or gender identity.

Being LGBTQ+ can come with its own set of challenges as well as joys.

You may have questions, thoughts and feelings about your identity that you

want to freely and deeply explore. These may be related to new discoveries about

yourself, current issues or past experiences.

I understand the importance of having a dedicated, confidential space to talk with someone who does not have an agenda, only an interest in knowing more about you. My approach is non-directive and exploratory. I will follow you lead here. We will focus on what you feel is important, at your pace. You may want to talk about:

  • Your sexuality, gender identity or romantic orientation

  • Whether to come out, coming out, staying out or changing your mind

  • Coming out as LGBT at university

  • Coming out as LGBT later in life

  • Navigating attraction, dating and relationships

  • Self acceptance and understanding including internalised homophobia and transphobia

  • Facing stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination

Or you may not want to talk about any of these, but you do want to speak to a counsellor who is more than just “LGBT-friendly” but is actually part of the LGBTQ+ community. I’m gay/lesbian, and I know it can be really helpful to talk to someone who shares your identity or has lived experience of similar issues — someone you don’t have to explain yourself to. That way, you can fully focus on what truly matters to you.
